Bodrum Municipality recently organized a special cultural and nature walk combining historical exploration with traditional Hıdırellez celebrations at the volcanic crater near Termera Ancient City. Around two hundred nature and culture enthusiasts participated in the event, guided by Archaeologist Serap Topaloğlu.

Participants explored significant archaeological sites, including Termera’s ancient acropolis, city walls, farmhouses, burial traditions and historical windmills reflecting Bodrum’s Ottoman-era rural identity. The group then reached the volcanic crater, where they learned about the region’s volcanic history and examined rock tombs and ancient farmhouses.

Embracing Hıdırellez traditions, participants tied wish ribbons to trees within the scenic volcanic crater. The event concluded at Gün Batımı Public Beach with a festive gathering organized jointly by Bodrum Municipality and local community offices.

Representing Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Deputy Mayor Kanat Özsert emphasized the importance of such events in promoting local heritage, history and cultural values. Mandalinci highlighted the significance of experiencing historical and natural sites firsthand, enhancing community engagement with Bodrum’s cultural landscape.

Participants expressed gratitude for the enriching experience and called for the continuation of similar cultural activities.
