MAY DAY MESSAGE FROM BODRUM: STANDING STRONG FOR WORKERS' RIGHTS

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci Calls for Renewed Commitment to Workers' Rights on May Day

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci issued a compelling message in recognition of May 1st, International Workers' Day, emphasizing the importance of protecting human dignity and advocating for fair labor conditions.

Mayor Mandalinci described May Day as a symbolic occasion deeply rooted in the struggle for human dignity, the sanctity of labor, and the historical fight for workers' rights. “May Day embodies a century-long accumulation of sacrifices and hard-won rights, marking the collective struggle of the working class towards a fairer and more equitable World”, Mandalinci stated.

Mandalinci highlighted the current economic challenges, noting the pervasive effects of economic crises on daily lives, deepening poverty, rising unemployment and the diminishing value placed on labor. "Workers and producers are struggling to live with dignity, unable to adequately benefit from the fruits of their labor”, Mandalinci remarked. This challenging reality, he said, makes the message of May Day even more significant, underlining the necessity of continued struggle and advocacy.

Mayor Mandalinci described May Day not merely as a day of celebration, but as a vital call for establishing a new social order, one in which labor is respected and properly valued. He emphasized that May Day stands for employment over joblessness, equitable distribution of wealth over poverty, and dignified living conditions instead of insecurity.

The mayor also underscored the importance of supporting domestic production and employment, advocating policies that favor workers and farmers over monopolies and dependence on imports. He called May Day an occasion to resist oppression, authoritarianism, exploitation and imperialism, stressing that it symbolizes the collective resolve to protect human dignity.

“May Day is the day we declare loudly that freedom of thought, expression, union rights, and the right to organize cannot be curtailed by threats or pressure”, Mayor Mandalinci affirmed. He further emphasized the importance of ensuring a healthy, secure working environment, social security, and dignified living conditions for all.

In closing, Mayor Mandalinci declared, “Today, we reaffirm our commitment to building an equal, fair, free, and independent country through the diligent hands of our workers—the true creators of all societal value. We are not merely dreaming of a peaceful, exploitation-free world; we are committed to actively fighting for it with our labor, conviction, and determination.”.

Mayor Mandalinci concluded by inviting everyone to unite in celebrating the dignity of labor and the unwavering determination for freedom, saying, "Long live labor, long live May Day!".
