First-grade students from Güler Mustafa Kızılağaç Primary School visited Bodrum Municipality’s Garaova Agricultural Park, where they got a hands-on introduction to farming and nature.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students toured the İsmail Hakkı Tonguç Agricultural School & Museum, learning about the history of agriculture and the evolution of farming tools and techniques over time.

Agricultural engineer Mehmet Top from the municipality's Agricultural Services Department explained the differences between heirloom and hybrid seeds. The children also learned how people farmed before the invention of tractors, using traditional tools like the “kara saban” (a type of primitive plough) and animal power.

The tour also covered the stages of wheat growth and harvest, traditional weaving techniques, natural dyes and old farming tools. The children had the chance to closely examine historical artifacts and seeds preserved at the museum.

Teachers said the visit was designed to help students observe nature more closely, develop listening and observation skills and experience the agricultural production process firsthand.

After the educational tour, the students enjoyed a picnic and spent time playing in the lavender gardens, exploring plants and insects with magnifying glasses, and swinging under the sun. The visit ended with a look inside a traditional Yörük tent, adding a cultural touch to the day’s discoveries.
