Water Awareness Starts in Schools: Bodrum Municipality’s Initiative
22.03.2025
Bodrum Municipality took an active role in raising awareness about water conservation by organizing seminars for students as part of World Water Day (March 22). The seminars, held at Turgutreis Uğur Schools on March 20 and TED Bodrum College on March 21, aimed to emphasize the importance of protecting water resources and reducing waste.
Experts Filiz Hekimoğlu and Selen Şahin from the Municipality’s Climate Change & Zero Waste Solutions Directorate led the sessions, engaging students with interactive presentations and videos. The discussions focused on the growing global water crisis, the impact of water waste on climate change and practical ways to conserve water in daily life.
One of the key highlights of the seminar was the distribution of water-saving aerators, small but effective devices that help reduce water usage. By equipping students with these tools, the municipality encouraged them to take immediate action in their homes.
A municipal spokesperson emphasized the importance of instilling environmental consciousness at an early age and announced that similar awareness programs will continue in different schools throughout the year.
For those interested in calculating their carbon and water footprint, the municipality encouraged a visit to its dedicated website: iklim.bodrum.bel.tr.
