Bodrum Municipality organized a packaging exchange event at Umurca Park, emphasizing sustainable living practices. The event, held in collaboration with the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate in partnership with the Senitation Services Directorate on November 23rd, aimed to promote awareness during the European Waste Reduction Week.
Representing Mayor Ahmet Aras, who actively participates in climate initiatives in Bodrum, Deputy Mayor Yaşar Çelikkan, Climate Change and Zero Waste Director Ezgi Acer, Senitation Services Director Serkan Kanik, along with staff members, participated in the event. The event drew participants, including 136 students from various schools, teachers, press members, and environmentally conscious citizens contributing waste packaging.
Following the opening speeches, both children and adults contributed to the cause by exchanging collected packaging waste. Children received recyclable stationery items, while adult participants were rewarded with low-water-demanding plants like goosefoot and pansies.
After the packaging swap, Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Gönen provided zero waste education for children at the Nazım Hikmet Library within Umurca Park. Additionally, the Bodrum Municipality Sanitation Department staff provided insights into recycling bins and shared information about municipal efforts concerning waste collection and separation.
