SEPTEMBER 19TH ‘THE VETERANS DAY’ IN BODRUM
A NEW PUBLISHED BOOK BY THE MUNICIPALITY “BODRUM'S MARTYRS & VETERANS"
September 19 Veterans Day was celebrated in Bodrum with a series of events. Having started with a ceremony held in the Municipality Square, the events continued with an official visit and lunch.
The ceremony, organized by the Bodrum District Governorate in the Municipality Square was attended by the District Governor of Bodrum Mustafa Çit; Ahmet Aras, the Mayor of Bodrum; Bodrum Garrison Commander Staff Colonel Ertan Benli, Chief Public Prosecutor Hasan Dalak, the deputy mayors of Bodrum, municipal directors; Hasan Külcü, the President of the ‘Turkish Veterans Association - Bodrum Branch’, veterans, relatives of martyrs and veterans, representatives of political parties and NGOs, school principals, teachers, students, and citizens.
Having begun with a minute of silence and the national anthem, the ceremony continued with wreath presentation at the footsteps of the Atatürk statue, featured a recitation of the poem "Our Veterans" by Tuğçe Sarı, a student at Kanuni Sultan Süleyman High School. Hasan Külcü, the Chairman of the ‘Turkish Veterans Association - Bodrum Branch’, also gave a speech emphasizing the significance of the day.
After the ceremony, Mayor Aras hosted veterans and association members in his office and lunch was served at Trafo Cafe & Restaurant, organized by Bodrum Municipality.
In his speech, Mayor Aras extended his best wishes for this meaningful day to veterans and their families. Aras said, "I extend my condolences to the families of all the veterans, who have passed away. You risked your lives to defend homeland and for that, we are deeply grateful. This nation stands today thanks to you. From the Battle of Malazgirt to the present, Anatolia, where hundreds of thousands of martyrs have been sacrificed, has been made a homeland thanks to your foresight and courage. Therefore, we owe you great gratitude and appreciation."
